A quiet game about folding paper

FOLD

Fold the paper until every blossom comes home.

One sheet. A few blossoms, and the pale imprints where they belong. Fold the paper over itself until each one lands on its own mark - and the garden opens.

No timer counting down at you. No lives, no energy, no advertisement between you and the next sheet. Unfold anything, as many times as you like. The only thing the game keeps is how few folds it took.

The whole of it

Three rules, and no fourth.

Everything in FOLD follows from these. There is nothing else to learn, and nothing hidden behind a tutorial you have to sit through.

Fold along a crease

Drag one edge of the sheet over the paper. It folds where you let go, and what was underneath is now on top.

Bring a blossom home

Each blossom has one pale imprint waiting somewhere on the sheet. Fold until they meet, and it blooms.

Fold as few times as you can

Every level has a measured best. Match it and the flower on the grid opens fully, with pollen in the middle.

Garden one

Two hundred levels, every one of them solved before you see it.

FOLD does not generate puzzles and hope. Every fold a four-by-four sheet can make was enumerated - all 6,273 states of it - and each of the 200 levels was measured against that map before it was allowed into the garden.

200levels in garden one, no two alike
6,273fold states enumerated
145levels with more than one blossom
4folds at the very hardest

Which is why the par under each level is a fact rather than a guess, and why the hint arrow - when it appears, for the first six levels only - points at the fold that actually works.

What it does not do

A game that does not want anything from you.

Puzzle games learned to be loud. FOLD is deliberately none of it:

  • No advertisements, anywhere, ever.
  • No countdown, no lives, no energy to wait out.
  • Nothing flashing, nothing nagging, no daily streak to lose.
  • No account needed. All 200 levels play offline from the first tap.

What it does have is a clock that quietly times your fold, so when you come back to a level you already know you can see whether this run was the better one.

The look of it

Paper, light and a cherry branch.

Everything is drawn as paper on a warm surface, with the shadow of a window across it. Screens from the game, not mock-ups.

What comes next

Four gardens. One is planted.

Garden one is the 200 levels in this release. Three more are being grown, each a further 200 puzzles that share no sheet with the ones before them.

Garden two is already built and measured. It is not in this release because a garden nobody has bought should not be sitting inside the app.

One sheet of paper, and all the time you like.
